Not sure if you are into modern poetry, but Wright is probably among the top 5 or 6 poets in the US right now. He’s an elderly Black man, light-skinned, now poet in residence at Yale University.
Of all of the very many poets writing in America today, Jay Wright is probably among the top 5 or 6. His poems will survive his passing.
There have been quite a few good Black authors. I am a big fan of James Baldwin. Zora Neale Houston is out of this world. And Richard Wright was a very good writer. Samuel Delaney is said to be one of the finest literary sci-fi authors out there, and Octavia Butler is also a superb sci-fi author.
Cornel West is a glorious philosopher, up there with the greats.
If you go to White nationalist forums, as proof of Black intellectual inferiority, they will offer that there are no fine Black authors of the caliber of this or that White author, or there are no Black intellectuals of the caliber of these or those White intellectuals. This is a silly game. These things are so hard to compare. You are comparing the greats with the greats, and where do you begin? IQ tests make an excellent case for intelligence differential between Blacks and Whites.
Comparing the greatest Black and White authors, on the other hand, seems to be a failed exercise. Whatever intellectual and artistic talents it takes to produce a great White writer or thinker, there are sure to be a few Blacks now and then with the cognitive and creative material to match them.
Black people can write and think, at least some of them can. And the best of the Blacks can write and think with the greatest of the greats.

Well, light or dark, they’re all Black people here in the US. Blacks claim them all. Blacks should be proud of their highest achievers, lightskinned or dark.
White liberals often comment that the smartest Blacks are often lightskinned. I’m not sure if that is scientifically validated yet, though it might be. Personally, I think that the lighter Blacks are going to be smarter on average, yes.

Since written language wasn’t widely used in West Africa, I wonder if the better verbal memory scores stem from this. I wonder if it’s also true for other groups that were recording their history orally and opposed to using a script? Any info on that?
There was some form of indigenous writing in West Africa, but it wasn’t used in the same way it was used in the Europe.

It would be interesting to compare the scholarly citations of black scholars compared to white scholars in different fields, weighted by the impact factor of the publication where they occur. That’s about the most general measure of scholarly achievement I can think of.
Do you really think Cornel West is a great philosopher? When you say he’s up there with the greats, you mean people like Plato or Descartes? Or even Hume or Wittgenstein? I’m struggling to imagine what you might mean. I can’t think of anything he’s written that would be even remotely comparable to any of those people’s work. Or was that not really serious?
When I hear him talk, he’s a genius. He’s a great thinker, one of the greatest of our times. I don’t really read philosophy too much, so I can’t compare to the rest. I think he’s one of the greatest modern philosophical minds out there, just hearing him talk.

American Blacks have an advantage over other races in terms of strength of personality. How many notable Hispanic Americans are there, despite their similar populations? How may notable people can you think of from high IQ nations like Japan and Korea? Not that many.
Unfortunately, on average, American Blacks also appear to be pretty stupid. This combination – strength of character and dullness of intellect – makes stupidity fashionable. The more legal equality Blacks have achieved, the more they have managed to fail. Pre-70s blacks were pretty law-abiding and hard-working. With stable families. Now they are all fucked up…. Or is this all a myth?

Probably not to same extent, but the same could be said about whites. It’s fair to say they are more fucked-now than they were pre-70s. Sure race might have something to do with it, but there is more to it than that.

I have watched most of this guy’s videos and enjoy his perspective. He is an ‘ordinary’ black man, once jailed for dealing coke, not some academic superstar. I like his perspective and think very few whites, even racially-minded conservative whites, would have much problem with blacks like this.
One of his videos really pissed me off and saddened me. He came to the attention of the ‘niggermania’ crew and they put him through the ringer. That’s just cruel and idiotic.
But even though those sorts of things are a real risk, I still think ‘race-realism’ is better for blacks. Once you get past the BS I think you’ll realize that although in one sense IQ-related stuff really does matter (‘national achievement,’ crime, economics etc), in another sense, a human sense, it really doesn’t matter at all, and then we can address it intelligently and humanely, and people, I think, could easily shrug it off as ‘no big deal’ at the personal level and not be worried about it being used as a weapon against them.
lol, that man is not me. But I can relate to him on so many levels, aside from being black, that is. Plus, I’m younger than 30, have a graduate degree and haven’t been to prison. He’s clearly an open-minded and intelligent man that sees things for what they are. Definitely not in denial, assuming he is not a hypocrite in real life.
You’re right about morality and IQ. I can’t see the correlation between the two. Every sane person should have the human sense that leads them to act peacefully and morally, regardless of their IQ. Many, if not most, of the problems facing black communities have little to do with their IQ. There is just an overall lack of common decency.
